Picture a Sunday morning spent on a spontaneous hike, a weekend picnic in a leafy park, or an evening on a grassy hill, lying back and watching the sky turn shades of orange as the day slows. These are the moments that inspired HAY Outdoor Market by Jasper Morrison Shop: a curation of outdoor essentials designed to celebrate time spent in the fresh air.
When HAY founders Mette and Rolf Hay envisioned the collection, they wanted the objects to feel familiar and nostalgic, offering a sense of escape from conditioned settings. In response, the duo turned to British designer Jasper Morrison – “a master who’s incredible at making the ordinary feel essential,” they describe. And so, thirty thoughtfully crafted pieces came to life, from canopy hammocks to folding furniture and portable cooking tools, each carrying the spirit of classic camping setups.
In between HAY’s design philosophy and Jasper Morrison’s design language, the collection reflects honest materiality and a form-follows-function approach. Think lightweight beech wood furniture, or a durable stainless steel fire pit and barbecue, with each piece evoking memories spent under open blue skies. Jasper’s chance encounter with Basque patterns at a vintage flea market finds its way into striped upholstery and textiles made from recycled polyester, while Japanese craftsmanship appears in handmade brooms and accessories, bringing diverse cultural stances into a shared language.
The partnership began with a simple exploration of how we spend time outdoors, whether that’s in our gardens or wilder spaces, and grew into flexible setups that make it easy to do just that. “There’s a growing appreciation for being outside, for slowing down, disconnecting, and finding joy in simple experiences, and this collection gently makes room for that,” Mette reflects. hay.com
